Blood Bike Wales

Blood Bike Wales Volunteers

Blood Bikes Wales are in desperate need of volunteers to help keep the service running. They are a free service provided to the NHS funded entirely by public donations and sponsorship. They are referred to as blood bikes but on a daily basis they also take on responsibility for transporting test samples, documents, X-rays, human breast milk, and other medical supplies.

Blood bikes Wales covers the whole of Wales, providing services to all NHS Trusts with regional groups based in Newport, Bridgend, Swansea, Pembroke, Aberystwyth, Bangor and Wrexham.

Could you help?

Currently Blood Bikes Wales are in desperate need of controllers who can answer the phones (from their own homes) and dispatch riders to transport vital medical supplies to those in need. Training for controllers is provided free of charge however, to be a rider for Blood Bikes Wales you need to be 25 or over and have two years riding experience. You will need an advanced rider qualification which the charity is unable to totally fund but we have observers from both IAM and RoSPA in our membership who will be able to help you. Please email membership@bloodbikeswales.org.uk for more information.

Volunteering for Blood Bikes Wales is worthwhile cause, saving the NHS in Wales hundreds of thousands of pounds every year that can be released for patient care.

Hours of Operation vary between regions, but they aim to be operating from 7:00pm on Friday night to 12 midnight on Sunday and similar times on bank holidays at a minimum with some areas operating during the week and a dedicated service offered to transport frozen breast milk to high dependency baby units between Monday to Friday.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the charity, If you want to volunteer please visit: bloodbikeswales.org.uk.
